Career profile with impact – Why numbers alone are not convincing
Was viele Führungskräfte falsch machen, wenn sie von Erfolgen sprechen – und wie Sie Ihre Wirkung klarer zeigen Date: October 2, 2025“Revenue increased by 25%. EBIT improved. Team expanded.”
This is how many resumes and LinkedIn profiles read. Of course, numbers are important. They show performance, development, growth. But they often don't show what really matters:
👉 Your personal impact.
After all, increased sales can also be a market trend. EBIT improvement can be due to exchange rates or new management. The figure says nothing about your role, your decision, or your leadership.
Numbers are not a profile—they are a result.
A good career profile not only answers the question:
What has been achieved? But above all: How did this come about—and what was your contribution?
The Excel trap: the profile without personality
Many candidates present themselves like a pivot table:
- Results: Revenue, EBIT, employee numbers
- Functions: Head of, Director, Division Management
- Periods: 2015–2018, 2018–2022 ...
But what's missing is the narrative of your leadership. What exactly did you change, shape, prevent? What would have been different without you?
Better this way: From results to impact
❌Weak:
“Increased sales from €75 million to €95 million under my leadership.”
✅ Strong:
“After losing a major customer, I realigned the sales strategy, introduced a key account team, and within 18 months made the revenue base more resilient—from €75 million to €95 million.”
Now it becomes clear: problem identified, solution designed, and result achieved.
That's impact. That's leadership. That's your career profile?!
