Executive Search Audit Office (higher service) successfully completed
Deputy Head of Office filled within 30 days Date: May 7, 2026Our headhunters win excellent shortlist for deputy head position in the auditing department of a major city
Our team of recruitment consultants has once again successfully completed a challenging executive search assignment in the senior civil service. An exceptionally strong field of candidates was assembled within a short space of time for a central management position in the auditing department of the city of Frankfurt am Main.
The vacancy concerned the permanent replacement of the head of the Audit Office - a key position at the interface of financial control, investment auditing and administrative management. Filling this position is considered challenging nationwide: audit offices of a comparable size are rare, and the market for experienced managers with specific auditing and administrative expertise is correspondingly tight.
Limited candidate market - targeted direct approach
A key obstacle to success in the search for managers in the municipal auditing sector is the small number of designated audit offices in Germany. Suitable candidates are therefore often not found actively searching the market, but rather in positions of responsibility in large cities, state authorities or audit offices.
Our headhunters therefore relied on a systematic direct approach, supplemented by the activation of their specialized network in the public sector. Within a short space of time, a qualified shortlist was drawn up with personalities who had both the career requirements for the higher civil service and relevant management experience in the audit environment.
Excellent starting position for the selection process
With the presentation of the shortlist, the City of Frankfurt am Main received an excellent basis for the further selection process by the responsible committees. In addition to professional expertise, the proposed candidates impressed with their strategic understanding, experience in working with political bodies and competence in the further development of modern audit approaches.
The assignment shows once again that successful appointments are possible even in narrow specialist markets in the public sector - particularly in the senior civil service - if market knowledge, a structured direct approach and legally compliant selection procedures work together consistently.
